Frequently asked questions
Make sure all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Some routers have a "client isolation" (AP Isolation) option that prevents devices from communicating with each other. Disable this in your router settings.
On iOS, ensure NearBeam has the "Local Network" permission in Settings > NearBeam.
Speed depends on your Wi-Fi network. For optimal transfers:
- Use a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network rather than 2.4 GHz.
- Move devices closer to the router.
- Avoid congested public networks.
On Android, ensure you grant the screen capture permission when prompted. On Android 14+, the app must show a notification during capture.
On macOS, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and authorize NearBeam.
Android: Downloads > NearBeam
iOS: Files > On My iPhone > NearBeam > Received
macOS: Downloads > NearBeam
Windows: Downloads > NearBeam
NearBeam consumes negligible battery in the background. Drain only happens during active transfers or screen sharing.
Yes! NearBeam works entirely on your local network. An internet connection is not required — devices just need to be on the same Wi-Fi.
Use the system Share button (from gallery, file manager, etc.) and select NearBeam from the app list. The file will be sent directly.
